Comprehensive Gaza Accord: Hostages, Withdrawal, and a Post-War Plan

Date:

A comprehensive accord to end the two-year Gaza war is taking shape, incorporating a hostage release, an Israeli withdrawal, and a preliminary plan for the future, with US officials declaring it “90 per cent done.” Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Hamas has “basically” agreed to the multi-faceted framework.

The first phase of the deal involves freeing all Israeli hostages. In return, the Israeli military will pull back to the “yellow line,” its position in mid-August. This exchange is the immediate priority for negotiators.

The second, more forward-looking component, is a political track for post-war Gaza. Rubio confirmed Hamas has agreed “in principle and generalities” to engage in discussions about “what’s going to happen afterwards,” a key step toward a sustainable peace.

The entire package has been promoted by President Donald Trump, who called it a “great deal for Israel” and secured Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s support. Trump has also warned Hamas of “complete obliteration” if it rejects the chance to cede power peacefully.

With the foundational elements in place, the final stage involves finalizing the logistics of the hostage transfer. These technical talks are expected to conclude quickly, determining the success of this ambitious peace initiative.
