Vietnam-Japan Enhance Economic Ties Through Ruling Party and Legislative Collaboration

Date:

In a recent meeting held in Hanoi, officials from Vietnam and Japan have pledged to enhance cooperation between their respective ruling parties and legislative bodies. This commitment was made during discussions between Nguyễn Duy Ngọc, a high-ranking official from the Communist Party of Vietnam, and Hagiuda Koichi, the Executive Acting Secretary-General of Japan’s Liberal Democratic Party (LDP).

The talks underscored the continued expansion of the Vietnam–Japan Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, with both nations agreeing to intensify political dialogue and increase parliamentary exchanges. This follows the visit of Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi to Vietnam earlier in the year, which set the stage for stronger bilateral relations.

Nguyễn Duy Ngọc took the opportunity to emphasize Vietnam’s robust economic growth and the ongoing administrative reforms within the country. He proposed that Japan could play a significant role by sharing insights on local governance and decentralization, which would aid Vietnam in its institutional development. Additionally, he advocated for expanded cooperation in key areas such as human resource development, digital transformation, artificial intelligence, semiconductors, green transition, economic security, and quantum technology.

The Vietnamese official also called for increased collaboration between the parliamentary friendship groups of the two countries and urged for more exchanges involving young lawmakers. Furthermore, there was a request for enduring support for the Vietnamese community residing in Japan, alongside proposals to simplify visa procedures with the ultimate aim of establishing visa-free travel for Vietnamese citizens.

Hagiuda Koichi expressed Japan’s support for broadening bilateral cooperation, pledging that the Liberal Democratic Party and the Japanese parliament would continue to promote exchanges and joint initiatives, particularly in the realms of advanced technologies, digital innovation, and green energy.
