Miami Talks: Trump Envoys to Meet Russians as Pressure Mounts

Date:

President Donald Trump is ramping up pressure on Ukraine to finalize a peace deal as his envoys prepare to meet Russian officials in Miami. Trump warned on Thursday that Ukraine must “move quickly” or risk Russia changing its mind. The weekend meeting is a key moment in the ongoing diplomatic efforts.

Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner will represent the US in the talks with the Russian delegation. This follows earlier discussions in Berlin with Ukrainian officials. The administration is pushing for a rapid conclusion to the conflict, using high-level diplomacy to drive the process.

Trump was blunt about the risks of delay. “I hope Ukraine moves quickly,” he said, noting that “Russia changes their mind” when talks drag on. His comments suggest that the window for a deal may be closing, and that Ukraine needs to act now.

However, the territorial dispute remains a major stumbling block. Ukraine refuses to cede land, while Russia demands concessions. The refusal of either side to budge on this issue makes a quick resolution difficult.

Russia currently occupies Crimea and parts of four other regions. Moscow demands a Ukrainian withdrawal from the Donbas as a condition for peace. With Russian negotiators showing little willingness to compromise, Trump’s call for speed adds to the pressure on Ukraine.
